Short answer: shockwave therapy sends focused acoustic waves into stubborn soft tissue, like a sore tendon or the bottom of the foot. Sessions are short, you may feel strong pulses, and most people go on with their day. It starts with an exam so we treat the right spot.

What shockwave therapy is

Shockwave therapy is an in-office treatment with no needles. We aim focused acoustic waves at sore tissue that rest has not fixed. The goal is to help that tissue start to heal again. Most people have no downtime.

Who it may help

We use shockwave for stubborn soft-tissue problems such as:

MedlinePlus says tendinitis often follows repeated strain on one spot. It says plantar fasciitis starts when the band of tissue under the foot is overstretched or overused. Your exam shows if shockwave fits you.

Get checked by a medical provider first if pain follows a fall or injury, or comes with a hot, red or very swollen joint.

What a session feels like

Part of the visitWhat to expect
ExamWe find the exact tissue that is driving the pain.
TreatmentWe place the applicator over that spot. You may feel strong pulses.
AfterSessions are short. Most people go right back to their day.
Follow-upWe check how the tissue responds before setting next steps.

When the same exam finds a structural problem, your plan may also include corrective chiropractic.

Other names you may see

You may also see this care called acoustic wave therapy. It is not a cosmetic skin treatment with a similar name. It is also not the same as ultrasound.

Common questions

Does shockwave therapy hurt?

You may feel strong pulses during treatment. Sessions are short, and most people have no downtime afterward.

Is shockwave the same as ultrasound?

No. Shockwave uses focused acoustic waves aimed at stubborn soft tissue. It is not the same as therapeutic ultrasound.

How many sessions will I need?

Plans vary. We set expectations after we see how your tissue responds and what the rest of your plan needs.

Can shockwave be combined with chiropractic care?

Yes, when the exam supports both. Shockwave works on soft tissue while corrective care works on structure.
